VAZ -  2120

VAZ -  2120 «Nadezhda» - seat four-wheel drive minivan, prepared for experimental-industrial production of OJSC «AVTOVAZ» from 1998 to 2006.
VAZ 2120 became the first минивэном in the history of the Russian automotive industry. History of creation

The first Russian all-wheel-seat minivan "Nadezhda" was carried out in the Experimental-Industrial Production of STC VAZ since 1999 on a platform of a long "Niva" VAZ-2131. And only the layout of 1991, served for the future «2120» a kind of a pass on the conveyor. That is why attention to the project were a few scattered and weakened. His contribution was made by the use of serial lighting equipment, which are subject to strict international rules (including their installation).At first it was planned to equip the minivan original headlights of head light, but in the end, decided to abandon this idea, since the release of cars is not planned large, and the costs for their development in production, certification, etc. promised to be large. Was also rejected the option of the headlights from the VAZ-2110, since the beginning of the issue of minivan was planned much earlier development of production of VAZ-2110 and lights could not be prepared. As a result, in the development of the initial design of a prototype was not considered a promising rule, requiring the presence of гидрокорректора headlights. Therefore, in the initial design were laid lights VAZ-2106 diameter 145 mm. When the project has acquired the status of an official, highlighted the need for this requirement. Of production of headlamps could come only the lights from the «Niva» with the diameter of 180 mm. The search for an acceptable solution lay for a long time. In the end, it was applied the scheme with a combined arrangement of the headlights - inside were small-beam, and on the edges of the headlamps from the «Niva». Originally lights were slightly recessed in the chassis (approximately 50), but in a series for reasons of aesthetics went to the option with the forward headlamps, and that was the transition from the headlights to the hood, the original plastic lining on the headlights. Such a pronounced emphasis on the lighting equipment was not the most aesthetically acceptable solution - more forced in the absence of any headlamp at the time. Rear lights were installed from the VAZ-1111. Borrowed from «Oka» rear lights had to be integrated into the surface of the body, or rather the surface of the tailgate exterior of a priori given surface borrowed light. Not taking into account the horizontal optical axis of the back lamp, designers shook it back thereby making the back of the car more vertical. Only 5 degrees, but it is out of tolerance, and therefore a violation of the rules. The mistake became clear only after the beginning of design works.
